The Kauffman Foundation is out with it’s annual startup activity index which breaks out entrepreneurship trends across the nation and by state and metropolitan area.  Of course, the report is full of some of the sites you would expect for big business growth – New York and San Francisco both made the cut, but there are some surprises that may have you setting your sites for some of the smaller markets that offer huge growth potential.

Here are this year’s top cities for startup activity:

  1.  Miami
  2. Austin
  3. Los Angeles
  4. San Diego
  5. Las Vegas
  6. San Antonio
  7. New York
  8. Phoenix
